Marcus Rashford moves step closer to Man Utd exit as forward speaks on transfer
Manchester United are said to be in talks over sealing Marcus Rashford's exit with AC Milan and Barcelona among the candidates to complete a deal for the England international
by Scott Trotter · The MirrorAC Milan are set to engage in another round of talks with Manchester United over the prospect of signing Marcus Rashford.
The Serie A side are to continue discussions over a possible loan deal for the England international. Rashford's representatives are said to have met with a number of interested parties during the Janaury transfer window, after the forward decided he is ready to take on a new challenge.
Milan face competition from Barcelona for the forward's signature, with United willing to sell the academy product who remains under contract until 2028. The 27-year-old has made Ruben Amorim's matchday squad in just one the side's last seven fixtures.
Amorim has admitted he is uncertain whether Rashford has already made his last appearance for the Red Devils. Milan are hoping to agree a loan deal with United than contains an option to buy the player rather than obligation, per reports in Italy.
Milan are already seeking to make room for new signings with winger and forward Noah Okafor nearing a move to RB Leipzig. The Switzerland international is set move on an initial loan with the Bundesliga side holding an option to buy.
Okafor has already set off for Germany. "I go now to Lipsia (Leipzig), Sempre Milan, you never know in life, maybe you see me again, but for me it was the best option," he said when approached by media at the airport. "Thanks for everything in Milan. Thanks for the Tifosi, it was great, it always holds a place in my heart."
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, now an advisor at Milan, was asked about the possibility of bringing Rashford to the San Siro. The duo played together at United and lifted the UEFA Europa League trophy under Jose Mourinho.
"Rashford? I know him very well, I played with him when he was young, he is now an adult and established," Ibrahimovic said over the weekend.
"He did great things with United and today that is his club. How to convince him? Milan is one of the biggest clubs in the world, everyone wants to play here. This is a difficult operation, we’ll see if we can talk to him."
Milan were reported to have concerns over Rashford's attitude due to Amorim's decision to leave him out of matchday squads. Ibrahimovic is said to have attempted to alleviate fears over his character.
