Now, he may not be one of Britain's own sports stars but four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen spends much of his time in the United Kingdom as a driver for Red Bull.
However, from his time in the country the Dutchman has not grown to become a fan of what the locals traditionally consume on Christmas Day.
"I like 'stamppot'," he told JOE in an interview. This is a dish from his home country made from a combination of potatoes mashed with one or several vegetables, and typically garnished with sausages.
Verstappen continued: "And I don't know if it's really Dutch cuisine, but when I'm at my mum or dad's, I like to have a 'special fries' or a 'frikandel speciaal'. I can enjoy that so much,"(Image:Mark Thompson/Getty Images)
Andy Murray left former Great British Bake Off judge Mary Berry speechless when presenting his Christmas dinner of preference.
Making a guest appearance on the BBC show Mary Berry’s Highland Christmas Special, the former Wimbledon champion revealed whilst his family have traditional turkey and all the trimmings, he tucks into his favourite meal instead - sushi.
"No comment," Berry retorted...(Image:Luke Walker, Getty Images for LTA)
The World Darts Championship takes over at Christmas and chief amongst the players in the festive spirit is often Ricky Evans.
However, "Rapid" may have disappointed some Christmas lovers. The Darts star almost broke the internet after his first round win against Man Lok Leung by proclaiming his preference for curry over a turkey dinner and petitioning the crowd: "Hands up if you think gravy is the devil."(Image:Andrew Redington/Getty Images)
