Bondi Beach girl, 14, took bullet shielding toddlers as gunmen opened fire
A teenager who shielded two toddlers while the horror Bondi Beach shooting attack unfolded said 'I'm not the hero', despite her brave courage

At least 15 people were killed when two gunmen descended on the world famous beach to target people at a Hannukah celebration. A 14-year-old girl was one of the people rushed to hospital with horror injuries following the deadly attack. The courageous teenager was shot in the thigh as she covered two young children to save them from the bullets, on Sunday.
A family friend of the hero teenager revealed the incredible and potentially life saving action the girl took on the horror day.
The teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was at Bondi Beach when gunmen Naveed and Sajid Akram fired at innocent people.
The stoic 14-year-old revealed what went through her mind in that terrifying moment, speaking to 9News, and said: "I knew what I had to do in that moment."
The teen said she went to the religious event each year but revealed she was at the petting zoo with her pals when they heard the gunshots. While trying to hide, the teen said she saw a mum who had been shot in the head crying for someone to help her two toddlers.
She added: "I became a cave for them, like I jumped on top of them and I was hugging them and we were saying a lot of prayers." The teen added that she was put on a surfboard that turned into a stretcher after the horror attack, and she spend four days in hospital - she has thankfully recovered from her injury.
Despite her courageous quick thinking and action, the teen added: "I'm not the hero. The Jewish people are the hero, everyone's a hero."
Dovid Leider, a family friend of the teen, said: "She heard a mum crying out for help after she was shot, and without thinking twice, she went to cover them and received a bullet."
Leider, who travelled from Los Angeles to Sydney to be with the family, added that the young girl is "always caring about other people before herself".
15 innocent people were killed in the horror mass shooting at the event in Sydney to celebrate the firs night of Hanukkah. Police declared the attack a horror incident and said the two gunmen targeted the Jewish community.
Gunman Naveed Akram, 24, woke up from a coma and was charged with 59 offences, including 15 counts of murder. He undertook the deadly terror attack with his dad Sajid Akram, 50, who was shot dead at Bondi Beach by police.
