Liverpool transfer news: Arne Slot responds Khvicha Kvaratskhelia links amid stark warning

Liverpool have been linked with a host of new faces with the transfer window having now been open for nearly two weeks with Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia among those reportedly being eyed

by · The Mirror

Liverpool have been somewhat reserved in the transfer market this January - but that could all be about the change.

Arne Slot’s side sit pretty at the top of the Premier League and are still in both the League Cup and FA Cup. But the Reds have stuttered a little bit over recent weeks.

They were held by fierce rivals Manchester United last weekend before being edged out by Tottenham in the first-leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final showdown. Some fresh faces might be useful to get them back on track.

A number of stars have been linked with Liverpool recently. Take a look at all of the latest transfer news and rumours ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup clash with Accrington Stanley.

Slot silent on Kvaratskhelia

One man that Liverpool have been linked with recently is Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian wideman has long been rumoured to be a candidate for a Premier League move.

Liverpool are mentioned once more, reports suggesting both they and Paris Saint-Germain are eyeing him. But Arne Slot has refused to reveal any details. Asked about the links, he said: "When you said yourself 'linked with', I was thinking: 'Which club is he going to say now?' But you mean as a club we are linked with Kvaratskhelia.

"What I make of that is that this is January and I think I said it after the West Ham United game [to journalists], please don't disappoint me, please come up with all these players and all these clubs that are in the interest of us.

"Or the ones that don't play a lot for us are going to go somewhere else. That [speculation] is what is happening now. And nine out of 10 times or 99 out of 100 times, at the end of the window it's been clear that almost all of these stories weren't true. So what can I comment about it? The rumours keep going for it but no comment from my side."

Slot fires Chiesa warning

While Kvaratskhelia could potentially be on the way in, one man who could depart is Federico Chiesa. The Italian winger has been linked with a return to Italy after barely featuring in his first season at Anfield.

And worryingly, Slot has revealed that there is no guarantee that the former Juventus man will feature. “Every game is a chance for every player to get some playing time,” said the Liverpool boss.

“It is not only been difficult for him for all the things you just said in terms of match fitness - I'm not going to say all these things again - it is also that he has to compete with the likes of Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah.”

Carrick urges Doak stay

Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick has urged Ben Doak to stay with the club despite reported interest from Crystal Palace and Ipswich. “It's difficult for me to answer that,” Carrick said of the Liverpool loanee. “It certainly suits him in many ways.

“There's no denying some of it is out of our hands but I'm really calm and content. Hopefully it plays out and we're all happy and we still have Ben. We're in a good place and it's a good place for him.”

Doak, 19, joined Middlesbrough on loan in the summer. He has scored two goals and notched six assists in 21 Championship outings.
