UFC 309 full fight card and UK start times for Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic
UFC 309 is stacked with many mouthwatering fights - headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Jon 'Bones' Jones and MMA legend Stipe Miocic
by James Evans · The MirrorJon Jones returns for the first time in over a year and will be looking to cement his legacy as the greatest of all time with a win over Stipe Miocic.
The mouthwatering pay-per-view card is scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York in what promises to be an epic night of fights for MMA fans. From top to bottom, the card is stacked with many legendary names.
The UFC 309 co-main event will see Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler go head-to-head in an epic lightweight rematch. The Brazilian comes into the clash off the back of a narrow defeat to Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300. As for Chandler, the American hasn't fought since losing to Dustin Poirier back in 2022. The main card also sees the return of Bo Nickal, who will be looking to keep his undefeated record intact. Here's all you need to know about the confirmed fights...
Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic - 5am (Sunday)
Jones - a former light-heavyweight champion - last defended the 205lb strap after defeating Dominick Reyes via unanimous decision back in 2020. The American opted to move up to heavyweight last year, where he faced Ciryl Gane for the vacant heavyweight title. 'Bones' was dominant from start to finish, submitting the Frenchman in the first round. As for Miocic, the former heavyweight champion hasn't fought since losing to Francis Ngannou back in 2021. The 42-year-old will no doubt prove to be a tough test for Jones, though.
Charles Oliveira vs Michael Chandler - 4.30am (Sunday)
Bar the main event, many MMA fans will be looking forward to the rematch between Oliveria vs Chandler. The pair first met three years ago for the vacant title in Texas. As ever, Chandler came out strong and was looking for the finish straight away - and nearly got it in the first five minutes. However, the tide turned just 19 seconds into the second round when 'Do Bronx' caught the American with a sharp left hook before landing a barrage of punches. At that point, the referee waved off the contest. This time around, with both men coming off of losses, they will be itching to do whatever it takes to get back in the win column.
Bo Nickal vs Paul Craig - 4am (Sunday)
This is certainly an intriguing match-up in the middleweight division as Paul Craig will undoubtably be Bo Nickal's toughest test inside the cage so far. With an unbeaten record of 6-0, fans were left unconvinced by Nickal in his last fight against Cody Brundage. Brundage enjoyed a little bit of success, particularly in the opening five minutes. Craig - a former light-heavyweight contender - is a Jiu-Jitsu phenom and has the tools to potentially cause a real upset in New York.
Viviane Araujo vs Karine Silva - 3.30am (Sunday)
Experienced UFC star Viviane Araujo returns to the cage and will be looking to get back to winning ways. The 37-year-old suffered a defeat to Natalia Silva back in her last outing earlier this year. With a record of 12-6, the Brazilian will be looking to remain in the top 10 of the division with a win over Karine Silva. Silva, who joined the UFC after a successful stint on the Dana White's Contender Series three years ago, is unbeaten since signing for the organisation. With wins over the likes of Ketlen Souza, Maryna Moroz and Ariane Lipski, the 30-year-old's upcoming opponent will no doubt be the toughest test of her career so far.
Mauricio Ruffy vs James Llontop - 3am (Sunday)
With a professional record of 10-1, Mauricio Ruffy may be one of the most exciting stars to compete on the whole card. The 28-year-old has won all 10 of his fights by way of knockout and made his promotional debut earlier this year, knocking out Jamie Mullarkey in the first round. As for his opponent, James Llontop signed for the UFC after defeating Malik Lewis on the Contender Series. Since then, though, he's yet to win inside the UFC cage, but is still capable of causing Ruffy some real problems.
