Mikel Arteta offers worrying update as Gabriel Jesus adds to Arsenal's injury woes
Arsenal sustained yet another injury in Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United after striker Gabriel Jesus was stretchered off the pitch with a suspected knee injury and Mikel Arteta has now spoken out
by Daniel Orme · The MirrorMikel Arteta has huge concern for Gabriel Jesus after the Arsenal forward was stretchered off in agony against Manchester United.
The Brazilian started the Gunners’ FA Cup defeat to the Red Devils on Sunday. But he lasted fewer than 40 minutes after picking up what looked to be a serious knee injury.
Jesus was clearly in pain as he was carried off of the pitch and was then replaced by Raheem Sterling. And Arteta has not given a positive outlook on the injury.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Arsenal boss said: “Big worry, that's my feeling. He had to come off with a stretcher. The impact, the feeling that he had.”

Adding in an interview with the BBC, he said: "No update but it's not looking good. He was in quite a lot of pain, he had to come off on a stretcher and he's not looking good."
Jesus’ absence adds to growing injury woes in North London. Defenders Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu remain out, while Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri are also restricted to the sidelines.
Arsenal missed a number of chances to beat a United side who were down to ten men after Diogo Dalot’s red card. But Arteta insists that the strikers aren’t just to blame. He added: “We miss from various ways. From different players.”
Jesus was in electric form ahead of sustaining his issue. The 27-year-old had scored six goals in as many domestic appearances for Arsenal.

His injury will likely add to growing suggestions that the Gunners need to buy a striker in the January transfer window. But before the game, it appeared that was not on Arteta’s mind.
Asked in his pre-match press conference whether a new forward was a priority for this month, he replied: “No, the circumstances change because we have certain injuries for some big players, so it's always a possibility but always it’s about somebody that is really going to make us much better.”
Arteta added: “In the front positions, compared to what other clubs have done and the expenditure that we have there, we are very far from it, over the years, for different reasons. Firstly that we have already have very good players and we have many necessities in the squad to achieve in that period.
“I have so much support from the board, and I continue to have it and we are all sitting and willing to do the same; just to win the maximum amount of football matches in the way that we want to play, and achieve ultimately the goals that we want to achieve which is to win trophies. That support to continues to be there.”
