Trent Alexander-Arnold 'tells Liverpool he wants to quit Reds for Real Madrid'
Trent Alexander-Arnold's future has been in the headlines for weeks but it is has been reported in Spain that the Liverpool right-back wants to leave Anfield to pursue his ambitions at Real Madrid
by Samuel Meade · The MirrorTrent Alexander-Arnold has told Liverpool he won't sign a new deal and wants to join Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain.
The right-back's future has continued to be a major talking point with his contract about to enter its final six months. He came through the ranks at Anfield and has enjoyed huge success, but has been left with a decision to make.
Despite Alexander-Arnold's affection for the club he is keen to take on a new challenge and, this summer, looks to have set his heart on a move to the Spanish capital. Marca claims the 26-year-old has told the Liverpool hierarchy of his decision to leave for Real on a free in the summer.
Alexander-Arnold is one of three leading lights facing uncertain futures with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also seeing their contracts expire this summer.
It is understood that Los Blancos, the current Champions League holders, are willing to discuss terms once the January transfer window opens. However, the Reds would rather he left as a free agent in the summer than for a fee next month. They still have ambitions of winning multiple pieces of silverware and having Alexander-Arnold will aid their cause.
The opportunity to play alongside close friend and England team-mate Jude Bellingham is reportedly an added an incentive for Alexander-Arnold, who has been pictured out with the Real star in the past.
The right-back previously claimed his ultimate ambition was to win the Ballon d'Or. It would make him the first player in his position to ever do so and Jamie Carragher admitted he was unlikely to achieve that at Liverpool, but had a greater chance if he did move to Real.
The ex-Liverpool man though cautioned him against the risks of making the switch recently. He said: "If he stays at the club. He'll be remembered as one of the greatest players to ever play for the football club, and not far behind Steven Gerrard. If he doesn't, he won't be remembered like that.
"Now, if he doesn't care about that, that's fine, but I'm only telling you what Liverpool supporters [think]. He added: "If I was advising Trent, I would say, it's not just leaving. I think people understand it with Real Madrid. A lot of it is the free transfer. That's a lot of anything. It's that fear of not you leaving us, [but] Where's our money to replace you?"
