Manchester United fans furiously called for Erik ten Hag to be sacked midway through their 3-0 loss against Tottenham.

The Red Devils put in a horror first half display against Ange Postecoglou's side as Brennan Johnson tapped home from Mickey van de Ven's cross in the opening three minutes before Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a high lunge on James Maddison.

Spurs then made the perfect start to the second half as Dejan Kulusevski prodded home to further compound the misery on United, with the away fans chanting "you're getting sacked in the morning" to Ten Hag. Dominic Solanke made it three later in the half in the pouring rain at, with Spurs absolutely dominant. They had he highest xG - 4.67 - of any away side ever in a Premier League match at Old Trafford.

But long before the game was done in Manchester, some United fans made clear that they have had enough of the Dutchman, calling for the axe before the second half had even begun.

One fan wrote: "We’re always getting bullied on the pitch. We need a dark arts coach. We need to start playing dirty too. Ten Hag OUT!"

Another fuming supporter said: "Gets the players he wants. No game plan. Makes easy games look so difficult. Good players look trash under him. Just press talks and blacklisting players. Get Erik Ten Hag out of Manchester United."

"Ill disciplined, running around like headless chickens," said another fan. "They don’t know where they are meant to be or their jobs, I’m afraid it’s time to go."

Fans said the team looked directionless under Ten Hag against Spurs

One pointed out how there was little evidence the former Ajax boss could turn thing around at Old Trafford, adding: "When do we say enough is enough! @ManUtd? Because if you still believe this man can turn things around, the question is when and how?"

United were given a damning verdict of their first half display from Gary Neville - who did not hold back on the team and was particularly critical of Marcus Rashford and Fernandes.

“It just sums up Manchester United in this first half, to be fair they’ve been an absolute disgrace," he told Sky Sports. "It’s one of the worst performances I’ve seen in Erik ten Hag’s time at Manchester United and that’s saying something."

On Fernandes, he added: "When players react like that, it means something has gone on that we haven't seen initially. He's gone knee high Bruno Fernandes. I think he slips just before the tackle but he's not going to get away with it."

And towards the end of the game, Neville's doubled down on his first-half comments, declaring: “It was an absolutely disgusting performance in that first half in effort, quality, everything you would want in a football team.

“There will be a lot of questions to answer for that group (of players) and the manager in the next week.”

Speaking post-match, former United winger Ashley Young let rip too. He said: “Manchester United just didn’t commit. There was no effort, no work rate, no-one was running, they didn’t have any leaders on the pitch.

“Everything seemed disjointed. It looked like there was just so many individuals all over the place. No-one wanted to take the ball, no one wanted to create anything. Everything was bad from start to finish.

“When we talked at half-time about who was the home team, Tottenham were so comfortable. They didn’t do nothing. They didn’t get in behind. Tottenham’s two centre halves weren’t troubled.

"It looked like Tottenham were the home time, United fans are going to go home disappointed and rightly so as well."

Jamie Redknapp was also less than impressed by United.

“It was so easy for Tottenham. They looked comfortable, calm, under no duress,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports. “Man Utd and Ten Hag are going backwards. You can’t complain any more, he’s got his back four in place, he’s got all the players at his disposal – there’s no excuses.

“They are rock bottom right now. I just don’t see where they can go from here. They’re as bad as I’ve seen a United side.

“It’s embarrassing. A club of this stature shouldn’t be producing performances like that. They’ve been outworked and that’s been the most damning thing for me over the last few games.”
