Marcus Rashford sends Man Utd clear message on future ahead of January transfer window
Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford has found a new lease of life on loan at Barcelona and has once again stressed that he would like to join the club permanently
by Dan Marsh · The MirrorMarcus Rashford has reiterated that he wants to join Barcelona full-time, with the on-loan Manchester United star admitting that a permanent move to the Nou Camp is still the "ultimate goal".
The England attacker, 28, moved to Spain in the summer after falling out of favour at Old Trafford. And Rashford, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, has been a huge hit at the Nou Camp playing under Hansi Flick, contributing seven goals and 11 assists in all competitions for Barca.
It was well documented that Barcelona was Rashford's dream move when speculation over his future was rife back in the summer. And off the back of his fine start to life in La Liga, Rashford has confirmed that he still only has eyes for a permanent switch.
Speaking to Sport in an interview focused on his charity work after visiting schools in Barcelona, Rashford said: “I’m settling in really well at the club and in the city. From the moment I arrived, I felt very welcomed. For me, the reason I’m here is to help the team win trophies; last season was fantastic, but life moves very fast, things change, and the goal is to repeat those successes. I’m totally focused on that. Everything has been fantastic with the staff and my teammates; I have no complaints.”
He continued: “Of course, what I want is to stay at Barca. It’s the ultimate goal, but it’s not the reason I’m training hard and giving my all. The purpose is to win. Barca is a huge, fantastic club, built to win titles.”
An option for Barcelona to sign Rashford permanently for £26million was included in the deal which took the Manchester United academy graduate to Spain back in July.
The switch was seen as an opportunity for Rashford to make a fresh start after being scrutinised during his final days at Old Trafford.
Referencing that, he said: “There is pressure here, but it’s not negative pressure; it’s the kind you crave as a player, the kind I want and have always wanted as a footballer. I can’t be in a place where there aren’t high expectations; for me, it’s harder to stay motivated and give my best at a club where the demands aren’t at their peak.
“I’m in the perfect place and environment to continue my journey as a footballer, so I’m just trying to give my best every day and help the team win. We’ll see what happens next summer.”
