Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo injury latest as Man United face Newcastle
Manchester United were dealt a significant injury blow before their match against Newcastle United, as Bruno Fernandes was forced off against Aston Villa, while Kobbie Mainoo is a doubt.
Man United captain Bruno Fernandes picked up an injury during his side's defeat at Aston Villa, which forced him off at half-time. The playmaker is now expected to miss one month of action at least, which may not see him return until late January. Kobbie Mainoo has been unfortunate this season, with limited opportunities to impress Ruben Amorim. Bruno Fernandes' injury has opened up an opportunity, but his own calf problem now makes him unavailable to face off against Newcastle. Mainoo's injury is believed to only be a short-term issue, which could see him back in the New Year. Potential return: Early January 2026.(Image:Getty)
Matthijs de Ligt could be closing in on a return to the Manchester United squad soon. The defender has been out with back pain, but there is growing belief that he could be involved again in the coming week. Amorim made it clear that he is handling the situation with caution, however, to avoid a repeat injury, but confirmed that he will miss the Newcastle game. Rounding off the injury list is Harry Maguire, who is dealing with a thigh injury. The defender has been out of action since early November, but could return soon. Amorim confirmed the star is available again soon, but the Newcastle game has arrived too early.
