Bryson DeChambeau would love to change 'most embarrassing' moment of career

LIV Golf's Bryson DeChambeau has opened up on the most embarrassing moment of his career, with the US Open champion left red-faced during a playoff with Patrick Cantlay

During a revealing chat on his YouTube channel with Tom Brady, Bryson DeChambeau opened up about a particularly embarrassing moment in his career.

LIV Golf star DeChambeau, spilling the tea with the former New England Patriots star during their 'Break 50' series collaboration, got candid about his golfing gaffe that still haunts him. The two-time US Open winner pointed out a cringe-worthy putt at the BMW Championship in 2021 as his most mortifying lapse.

"If I could change one situation it would have be 2021 against Patrick Cantlay at Caves Valley," DeChambeau told Brady. "Six-hole playoff, I had a five-footer to beat him and I missed and that was the most embarrassment I have ever felt on the golf course.

"I felt everyone was behind me. Even though there was controversy, everyone was behind me in that scenario and I missed the five-footer. I remember hearing it, feeling it. It was just the biggest embarrassment on the golf course. That was really frustrating."

It was a crushing moment for DeChambeau, especially as he watched Cantlay snatch victory that day and ultimately claim the prestigious FedEx Cup title. Since then, DeChambeau has ditched the PGA Tour, aligning himself firmly with the controversial and cash-rich LIV Golf league – with no regrets in sight.

It was arguably the most defining moment of his career when the Crushers captain, DeChambeau, clinched his second US Open title earlier this year. He just edged out Rory McIlroy to win at Pinehurst No. 2 in June, thanks to an incredible up-and-down from a fairway bunker on the final hole.

In a recent video chat with Brady, DeChambeau was asked if his approach to the 18th in North Carolina was his best shot ever. He nodded his head and replied: (Yes) not even close... I couldn't have written a fairytale story better than that one for me.

"Getting up and down, looking up knowing my dad was watching. That was really cool. It gets me emotional every time. I just wish he would have seen it. We grew up watching the 1999 US Open, Payne Stewart doing his (celebration) after his putt, the famous stance he did."

DeChambeau will get the chance to defend his US Open title at Oakmont in Pennsylvania in June. The 2025 Masters will take place at Augusta in April as usual, while the Open Championship will take place at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland in July. The PGA Championship, meanwhile, will be played at Quail Hollow in North Carolina in May.
