Jake Paul responds to world title offer issued immediately after Mike Tyson win
Jake Paul will have time to decide who he fights next following his victory over Mike Tyson, with world champion Artur Beterbiev responding in the aftermath of the bout
by Tom Victor · The MirrorJake Paul suggested Artur Beterbiev's callout is a sign that he "runs" boxing after Friday's victory over Mike Tyson.
Paul, 27, beat 58-year-old former world heavyweight champion Tyson by unanimous decision in Texas. While some viewers were left unimpressed by the action - and some even walked out of the AT&T Stadium before the result was announced - there has been plenty of noise in the aftermath.
“@jakepaul what can you do in ring against the current undisputed champion?" Beterbiev wrote on Instagram on Saturday. "Just know that I’m always open to any suggestions.”
Russian-born fighter Beterbiev, 39, is the undisputed light-heavyweight world champion thanks to his points victory over Dmitry Bivol in October. He has a 21-0 career record, and Paul certainly noticed the call-out.
"Just seen this….top 5 pound for pound fighter in the world calling me out. Hahahahahaha. 4 years in and I run this sport," Paul wrote on social media.
Those responding to Paul didn't seem to agree, though. "You don’t run the sport, everyone is sick of you fighting senior citizens. the one time you fought someone near your age, you lost," wrote one, referring to the YouTuber-turned-boxer's 2023 defeat against Tommy Fury.
"Be careful against actual boxers though. Maybe stick with gimmick fights," wrote a second. "You’ll wait till he’s 45 though so nobody’s bothered," was the verdict from another.

"I'm sorry I didn't knock him out," Paul said after his victory over Tyson. "After I'd seen him tired I didn't want to put too much hurt on him, but I wanted the fans to get a good experience. But there was a point where my aggression and violence went away when I wasn't getting hit. I love Mike."
He added: "This fight was just different. I felt a lot less nerves than normal, I'm just getting so used to these moments. Fighting in a stadium, it is less personal and less loud so it is less nerve racking. Arenas are harder to fight in. Walk out, I was cool, calm and collected.
"First round I was gauging his speed, and I managed to get his time pretty quick, saw how I could tag him up and touch him. The rest was pretty much history, I just out boxed him and had fun."
The win took Paul's career record to 11-1 in professional bouts, with Fury the only opponent to get the better of him. After his latest win, though, he was quick to call out Canelo Alvarez.
"He's going to want a payday and I want to show the world all the stuff I've been talking about beating Canelo is actually true and I'll have the biggest upset in the history of boxing," he said. "We'll fight to really see who is the face because after this event, I'm going to be claiming it."
