Arsenal handed worst-case Gabriel Jesus injury scenario in latest Mikel Arteta nightmare blow

Arsenal have been handed a worrying prognosis on Gabriel Jesus' injury by two experts.

The Brazilian was forced off in the first half of Sunday's FA Cup defeat to Manchester United after appearing to hurt his knee. Jesus was replaced by Raheem Sterling and looked in considerable pain as he left the field.

It represents another blow to the 27-year-old who missed 10 games last season for Arsenal due to a knee injury. He also missed 17 matches in the previous campaign due to a similar problem.

The Physio Scout Football Injury Analysis account on X, formerly known as Twitter, which specialises in football injuries, has dealt a worrying prognosis on Jesus' latest knee injury.

"Collapse of the knee, pivoting and a tibia bone shift were seen, which usually points towards an ACL injury (+/- meniscus)," they said.

"There is still a chance that he's only suffered a meniscus, isolated MCL injury or just a bone bruise. But that would be an unlikely scenario.

"If ACL: 9+ months If Meniscus: 3-4 months. If Bone Bruise: Less than a week"

Renowned doctor Rajpal Brar has also been unable to offer too much comfort to Arsenal. He predicts the Gunners' star will be out for between seven and nine months if it is an ACL injury.

"I thought I saw an ACL mechanism as he was getting back but couldn’t find a clear angle. Based on these observations, would highly indicate an ACL rupture.

"That would typically mean ~7 to 9 months out & another big injury blow for Jesus."

Speaking to reporters after the game, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirmed Jesus went home and not to the hospital. He said: "Big worry, that’s my feeling. He had to come off on a stretcher with a lot of pain, touching his knee. It’s not looking good."

Asked if it's the same knee as his previous injury, the Spaniard said: "No, I think it's the other one. The worrying factor is the feeling that he had. When he had to come off and the pain that he was in."

The injury to Jesus concludes a torrid eight days for the Gunners, who dropped points at Brighton before losing to Newcastle and Man United. Arteta's side will now be looking to bounce back in Wednesday's north London derby against Tottenham (kick-off: 8pm).
