Viktor Gyokeres has 'heart set on one club' as Arsenal sent clear transfer message
by Jake Stokes, Bruna Reis · football.londonArsenal have reportedly been dealt a major blow to their hopes of signing Viktor Gyokeres. The 26-year-old striker has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a while now as he continues to impress for Sporting CP on both the European and domestic stage.
His impressive form has caught the attention of Europe's top clubs, including Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. The rumours of a move to Old Trafford have only grown since Ruben Amorim, his former coach, took the reins at Manchester United.
According to The Sun, Gyokeres is keen on reuniting with the Portuguese tactician. The report suggests that the Swede is set on a Premier League move and he believes that teaming up again with Amorim would be 'the best move' for his career, even if it means turning down Arsenal and Chelsea - two other clubs reportedly interested in him.
Amorim has previously dismissed a bid for Gyokeres in January, but a summer raid on his old club could still be on the cards. Meanwhile, William Gallas has told Genting Casino that he believes Arsenal stand 'no chance' of netting the striker.
"Arsenal have no chance of signing Viktor Gyokeres," said the Frenchman. "He will choose Manchester United. He will follow Ruben Amorim to United, I think Gyokeres will suit Man United's team, too."
Tim Sherwood has also weighed in on the talk about Gyokeres being the perfect addition to the Reds' offence. Speaking to Ladbrokes, the former Tottenham Hotspur boss said: "Viktor Gyokeres, for me, is a must.
"I mean, he's a player who knows English football, albeit in the Championship, but he's been a revelation in Portugal, we've seen him ripping it up in the Champions League. And, above everything else, they need a striker, don't they?
"When have you ever seen Man United with just one striker? In years gone by they're had four in one squad! They've always had firepower in that area, but at the moment, when I look at it, Joshua Zirkzee is not a striker. He's not a striker.
"So that leaves them with one: Rasmus Hojlund. Gyokeres has got a big buyout clause, I think, so they're not going to be able to get him without getting some names out of the door, but he would massively improve that team, I've no doubt about that."
While it's known that Gyokeres has a €100million (£83m) release clause, there are reports suggesting an agreement for him to leave next summer for a fee in the region of €60-€70m (£50-£58m).
