PlayStation to scan fans into games with The Playerbase initiative
Players can apply to be in Gran Turismo 7, with more games coming in the future.
by Donovan Erskine · ShacknewsPlayStation has announced a new project that will give fans the opportunity to be scanned into video games. It’s called The Playerbase and will kick off with Gran Turismo 7, though PlayStation says more games will support the program in the future.
The Playerbase was announced in a new post on the PlayStation Blog. The company describes it as “a unique opportunity for PlayStation’s biggest fans to step into some of the biggest game worlds by having their likeness scanned and appear within a PlayStation game.” An attached video shows people being put in a makeup chair, and then three-dimensionally scanned into a digital program.
With Gran Turismo 7, PlayStation will narrow down the pool of applicants and select one fan to be scanned into the racing game as a character portrait. It will be a limited-time appearance. The winner will also get to discuss a logo and vehicle livery.
Submissions are open now on the PlayStation website. Sony says that more details on The Playerbase, including the next game that’ll utilize it, will come at a later date.
