Tokyo Game Show 2026 attendance numbers top 257,000

Despite a good turnout, there has been a decrease in numbers over the past two years.

Tokyo Game Show 2026 attendance numbers are in, and though they’re not as high as previous years, the crowds showed up in full force. The numbers were likely going to trend higher thanks to TGS 2026 being open a fifth day on Monday, but the approaching typhoon has forced the showrunners to cancel the in-person day.

The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association has released the figures for attendance of this year’s Tokyo Game Show on September 21, 2026. This year’s attendance numbers reached 257,642, which is a decrease from 2025’s 263,101 and 2024’s 274,739.

Tokyo Game Show 2026 was set to have a fifth day, which would have seen attendance numbers beat previous records. This extra day was in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of TGS, but unfortunately the day had to be cancelled due to the approach of Typhoon No. 25. The weather in Japan had been pretty terrible over the weekend too. Despite the downpour, attendees still turned out in the tens of thousands for the Sunday session.

Because there was to be a fifth day, there’s reason to believe some attendees were holding off on visiting Tokyo Game Show until the Monday – which is also a public holiday in Japan. This fifth day would likely have led to record-breaking attendee numbers.

Though the Monday in-person event is cancelled, the press release notes “official programs that can be conducted safely without visitors attending will be streamed as scheduled.” Some other exhibitors will also stream their shows.
