The Finals, to this point, could best be described as a down-to-Earth competitive shooter. However, the next season's theme is going to expand the game's scope into a more galactic theme. Galaxy Masters is the title of Season 11 and will feature a map filled with some more futuristic ideas. However, more importantly, it's going to give players who rely on melee combat more of a fighting chance.

The Finals' Galaxy Masters will introduce players to the Galaxy Estates map. It's constructed as a retro-futurist neighborhood filled with suburban homes laid out across a nice block surrounding a massive commercial skyscraper in the center. On top of the game's standard traversal mechanics, players will discover some new additions, like speed tunnels that give competitors a turbo boost and anti-gravity sections that lift the player into the air. Those interested in checking out Galaxy Estates can find it in the Cashout, 5v5 Team Deathmatch, and Quick Cash modes.

More interestingly, Embark Studios is reimagining how melee combat in The Finals works. A new stamina system will allow melee players to close gaps quickly with lunges of varying distances, dealing damage through a new precision-based system. After playing several sessions of an early build, I can definitely say that melee weapon wielders got their fair share of kills. Heavy builds, specifically, had enough health in the tank to allow them to bash me good with their sledgehammer, often wiping me out in one or two hits. Similarly, light builds can take advantage of dual katana weapons and use the new stamina system to strike quickly and efficiently before their foes even know they're there.

While The Finals has ten seasons' worth of content in the books, Embark Studios now faces the challenge of attracting more newcomers. Season 11 will feature a new player experience that allows newbies to build up their confidence against bots. Players can fly solo or team up with friends to take on bots with scaling difficulty, allowing them to determine when they're ready for the big time against human competition.

Season 11 of The Finals begins today. More details on its various features, as well as the latest Battle Pass, can be found on The Finals website.
