KUCHING (Oct 26): Coordination that ensures all units can function as a tightly-knit team is key to strengthening Sarawak’s preparations for the 2027 SEA Games, said Datu Hii Chang Kee.

The Deputy State Secretary (Operations) and Sarawak Cluster Local Organising Committee (LOC) Working Committee chairman said this was among the key outcomes of a three-day coordination workshop involving 21 committees and more than 100 members on Sunday.

The workshop reviewed initial plans, identified areas for improvement and clarified the responsibilities of each committee ahead of the Games in September next year.

“Over the three days, we were satisfied with the outcomes. Each committee now has a clearer understanding of its terms of reference, flow charts and organisational structure, as well as the interdependencies between all committees,” he said in a news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) on Monday.

The workshop also served to strengthen synergy among the committees to ensure their preparations remained aligned with the overall objectives of the Games. On operational preparations, Hii reported, each committee had begun planning according to its respective scope, including transportation, athletes’ catering and accommodation.

The committees were also engaging relevant stakeholders to ensure their plans could be implemented smoothly, Hii revealed. Another working committee meeting would be held in the near future, followed by a main committee meeting chaired by caretaker Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah before the end of the year.

Also present during the event were Sports and Entrepreneur Development Ministry permanent secretary Dzulkornain Masron and Sarawak Sports Council director Mu’azamir Jili.
