We're four episodes into Stranger Things Season 5, and so far no one has died—other than a bunch of soldiers at the hands of a couple Demogorgons, of course. But there are still four episodes of the show to go, and chances are at least a couple characters won't make it. The good news, though? Fans shouldn't expect a total blood bath.
Variety asked the Duffer brothers if Volume 2 will get "bloodier," and Matt Duffer responded "I’ve said this before: The show is not Game of Thrones. I’m hoping it surprises people. But there’s no Red Wedding, if that’s what you’re asking. That would be depressing."

So...who could die? Unclear, but now seems like a good time to point out that Hopper is wearing several sticks of dynamite attached to his chest, which definitely has us nervous. That said, Matt Duffer has hinted that a main character is unlikely to die without serious consideration going into it. As he put it on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in 2022 (via Business Insider), "When Barb dies, it's two seasons of grappling with that. So imagine, you know, Mike dying, and it's, like, is that something that we're interested in exploring or not interested in exploring?"
He also added that each death on Stranger Things serves a "thematic" and "narrative purpose," but that yep, "more of that's on the table" in Stranger Things Season 5.
