Watch: Teen DJ 'can't wait' for dream gig with 'hero'

A 13-year-old Dublin DJ is looking forward to his dream gig - as the warm up for legendary dance pioneer Paul Oakenfold.

Seán Meenaghan, known as SEANEM, will warm up for the veteran DJ at The Haven in Dunmore East in Co Waterford this evening.

Oakenfold, who has produced remixes for a range of artists from U2 to Madonna, is performing as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for the old South nightclub in Tramore.

"He's one of my idols, I just can't wait to meet him," Seán said.

Seán first started playing his parents' vinyl at around three years old, getting his hands on his father's trance records and his mother's house collection "whenever he could".

He had his first set of decks at 8, and played his first public set at a family fun day in Dublin two years later.

Since then, he appeared at major Irish festivals, such as Greenfields, Beyond the Pale, Kaleidoscope, Forest Fest and Electric Picnic.

"Electric Picnic was a big, big, big dream of mine, and the crowd there was amazing," he said.

Seán's musical taste centres on progressive trance, progressive house and funky house.

He says he's determined to continue to establish himself as a "serious DJ and performer" - homework notwithstanding!

"When I get home from school, I just want to get on the decks and play and play, and play, but I have to do my homework," he said.

For Seán, tonight's show is the first of three at The Haven alongside major names in electronic music, with Roger Sanchez and Dave Clarke & SLAM to follow next month.
