UCLA vs. UConn prediction: March Madness 2026 picks, odds, best bet for Sunday’s Second Round
· New York PostTwo historic college basketball programs are set to clash Sunday night in Philadelphia, with a trip to the Sweet Sixteen hanging in the balance.
The No. 7 seed UCLA Bruins and No. 2 seed Connecticut Huskies will meet in the East Region of March Madness 2026, as two fierce head coaches, Mick Cronin and Dan Hurley, look to settle the score.
UConn overcame injuries and survived a tough opening-round test against Furman, behind Tarris Reed’s historic 31-point, 27-rebound performance. Alex Karaban chipped in 22 points, including 4 3s, but it wasn’t the Huskies’ cleanest outing.
The lack of depth, with starting point guard Silas Demary and sixth man Jaylin Steward not suiting up, created some tense moments for UConn.
Oddsmakers aren’t high on UConn either; they enter as 4.5-point favorites in this one with the Over/Under penciled in at 135.5 points at Caesars Sportsbook.
UCLA vs. UConn prediction, best bet
UCLA escaped with a 75-71 win over UCF without their top scorer, Tyler Bilodeau. In his absence, Eric Dailey Jr. stepped up with 20 points.
The Bruins’ points scored per 100 possessions rank 23rd in the latest KenPom rankings, seven spots ahead of UConn, which sits at 30th.
They took care of the basketball in their opening-round win, with just eight turnovers, and that was largely in part due to senior point guard Donovan Dent.
The mainstay facilitator averages 7.5 assists per game, good enough for fourth-best in the country. He also played all 40 minutes against UCF. If Demary is sidelined again, the responsibility of containing Dent will fall to Malachi Smith, who must deliver a stronger performance than he did on Friday.
Solo Ball will also have to shake off a torrid 3-of-12 shooting day from the field, as his recent cold stretches have put ultimate pressure on Reed and Karaban to do most of the heavy lifting offensively.
Both teams enjoy slow half-court set pieces, as the Bruins rank 314th in adjusted tempo and the Huskies 319th on Torvik rankings.

The health of Demary and Bilodeau will ultimately decide this outcome.
The Georgia transfer’s absence for Connecticut was apparent on both offense and defense in the Furman game, as the Bruins would benefit from deploying Bilodeau alongside Xavier Booker to effectively contain Reed.
Styles make fights, and while Reed was great against Furman, the Huskies’ lack of a third or fourth scorer is a major concern. UCLA, conversely, has been operating more effectively, and its guards appear to be more consistent right now.
UCLA to cover the spread, especially if UConn’s key reinforcements are unavailable, is not a bad angle, but something tells me the Huskies will gut out yet another tough win here.
