Philip Rivers’ Colts hot mic captures his creative kid-friendly trash talk
· New York PostPhilip Rivers’ fastball might have lost a few miles per hour over the years, but the 44-year-old’s trademark PG-rated trash talk clearly hasn’t gone anywhere.
The NFL posted game footage to its X page on Tuesday from the Colts-49ers “Monday Night Football” matchup, and Rivers — famous for never cursing on the field — kept his mouth clean as usual.
The clip, which shared some hot mic moments from Rivers’ second game with Indianapolis since his improbable comeback at 44 years old, revealed the Colts signal-caller using several new creative ways to avoid swearing.
One highlight showed him calling a referee’s flag “bullcrap.” In another, Rivers could be heard celebrating a touchdown pass to Alec Pierce by yelling, “Let’s stinkin’ go.”
“Heck yeah, baby,” he added as he cheered with teammates. “Let’s go. Dadgummit.”
Rivers broke into the NFL in 2004, and it didn’t take long for fans to notice his kid-friendly banter. In fact, during the game Monday night, there were multiple signs at Lucas Oil Stadium referencing his use of “dadgummit.”
Rivers unretired and joined the Colts in Week 15, just days before their road clash with the Seahawks. While he’s 0-2 since taking over as the starter, his play has largely been lauded, especially considering he last logged snaps in the NFL in the 2020 season.
Up next for playoff-eliminated Indianapolis is a home game against the Jaguars, though it’s unclear if the team will start Rivers once more — or opt to get young quarterbacks Anthony Richardson and Riley Leonard snaps to end the year.
