Roman Reigns and Penta delivered eye-opening WWE masterclass

Roman Reigns and Penta delivered a home run and gave everyone plenty to think about.

Their stellar World Heavyweight championship match Monday on Raw at Arena CDMX in Mexico City was eye-opening: all the things that make pro wrestling special, why WWE’s new commitment to lucha libre is important and why some of the company’s booking blueprint could need a change.

We watched Reigns continue his next-level year in the ring as he won yet another match without any shenanigans or outside help — unlike so much else we saw previously from him and see too often in WWE. 

This was as athletic a performance as we have seen from Reigns — especially when you have to take multiple destroyers and sell Penta’s aerial moves. It is a reminder that “The Tribal Chief” can have that type of match if he chooses to and why it is so important for him to clash with opponents who don’t wrestle his regular style.
