“The New York Football Giants should hire, without question, John Harbaugh — And John, a great guy, should TAKE THE JOB!!! President DJT,” Trump posted to Truth Social.
This is not the first time that Trump has commented on Harbaugh’s coaching search, with the president writing on Wednesday that NFL teams need to hire the coach “fast.”
“HIRE JOHN HARBAUGH, FAST. HE, AND HIS BROTHER, ARE TOTAL WINNERS!!! President DJT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, referencing Harbaugh’s younger brother, Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh.
Trump’s comments come as rumors swirl around Harbaugh potentially joining the Giants for next season as the former Ravens head coach prepares his search.
Fox Sports reported Saturday that Harbaugh will be taking the weekend to narrow down his options to just around three to four teams before taking interviews this offseason.
The Giants have emerged as one of the potential suitors for Harbaugh since his firing from the Ravens on Tuesday, with the coach reportedly spending Saturday watching film of quarterback Jaxson Dart — along with Titans signal-caller Cam Ward — according to The Athletic.
One potential hurdle for the Giants’ chances is that Harbaugh, who earned $17 million per season in Baltimore, will be commanding a salary commensurate with the top of the NFL market, along with a large investment for the remainder of his coaching staff, as The Post’s Paul Schwartz reported.
According to ESPN, Harbaugh received calls from seven NFL teams in just 45 minutes after he was fired.
Harbaugh found out that Baltimore was letting him go via a phone call from owner Steve Bisciotti, just hours after conducting a final team meeting for the season.
“Well, I was hoping for a different kind of message on my last day here, someday, but that day has come today,” Harbaugh said in a statement on Tuesday. “It comes with disappointment certainly, but more with gratitude and appreciation.
“Gratitude to the owner and organization who was willing to bring in a head coach who made his mark with special teams success. A difficult thing to do. And appreciation for all the moments, all these years, that are etched into eternity. I hope a legacy built on faith, always fighting, always believing.”
