Giants next coach odds: Where things stand on Black Monday

The Giants’ season is mercifully over.

Big Blue closed out the season with back-to-back wins, much to the chagrin of fans hoping for the No. 1 overall draft pick, and will select fifth in the upcoming NFL draft.

Now DraftKings is pricing who will be the Giants’ next head coach, a job that should still be highly sought after, given the assets and talent on their current roster.

We know general manager Joe Schoen will be making all of the decisions after Giants ownership, perhaps surprisingly, backed him for another season.

Oddsmakers have a long list of potential candidates and no candidate has come close to a clear favorite, with a handful of names are at the top of the odds board.

Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is the favorite to become the next head coach of Big Blue as of Monday. DraftKings has him listed at +300 to land the job.

Hafley has been the defensive coordinator for the Packers for the past two seasons, but worked with the Buccaneers, Browns, and 49ers as a defensive backs coach from 2012 to 2018.

Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula has the next-best odds at +550. Shula has been with the Rams under head coach Sean McVay since 2017, moving up the ranks as a position coach before landing the defensive coordinator gig in 2024.

The next three names on the list have much more experience than the first two, which could be an asset or a liability depending on how Schoen views things. Mike McCarthy has +650 odds to end up at the helm of the Giants.

McCarthy won a Super Bowl with the Packers in 2010 and ranks 15th all-time in wins among NFL coaches. His tenure in Dallas didn’t end well, however. The Cowboys went 1-3 in playoff games over four seasons with McCarthy as the head man.

Betting on the NFL?

Kevin Stefanski, who was fired by the Browns on Monday, has +800 odds to be the Giants’ coach.

The two-time coach of the year winner couldn’t overcome the constant quarterback carousel in Cleveland that has sunk many other coaches over the past two decades.

Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo is the last coach with odds under 10/1. Anarumo has +900 odds to lead Big Blue and has a history with the Giants.

He was the defensive backs coach under Pat Shurmur in 2018 before landing the defensive coordinator position with the Bengals for six years.
