Anthony Joshua injured in car crash that kills two in Nigeria a week after Jake Paul fight

Star boxer Anthony Joshua was hospitalized after being injured in a horrifying car crash in Nigeria that killed two on Monday morning — less than two weeks after he knocked out Jake Paul during a Miami bout, according to multiple reports.

Joshua, 36, was traveling in the back of a vehicle that had a tire burst while on a highway, and the driver of the car lost control as a result before crashing into a stationary vehicle, Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo told ESPN.

A photo emerging from the crash from Punch — an outlet in Nigeria — showed a shirtless Joshua, who reportedly sustained minor injuries, with broken glass around him.

“We are trying to contact Anthony and in the meantime we don’t want to speculate on how he is but thankfully he appears OK from what I have seen in the images,” his promoter, Eddie Hearn, told the Daily Mail.

“We are awaiting more information on what has happened and will update in due course.”

An eyewitness told Punch that there were two vehicles traveling together from Joshua’s party and that the boxer’s security team “was in the vehicle behind them before the crash.”

The person in the passenger seat and the person who sat next to Joshua — reportedly seated behind the driver, per the eyewitness — “died on the spot,” according to the Punch report.

Both of Joshua’s parents are Nigerian.

The pair of boxers each earned $92 million for participating, according to a Daily Mail report last month.

“Jake Paul did really well and he deserves his props,” Joshua said during a Netflix interview following the fight. “It takes a real man to do that and he deserves respect for trying and trying and trying. But he came up against a real fighter tonight.”

Joshua is a former multiple-time unified heavyweight champion, initially holding the honor from March 2018 through July 2019 and then doing so again from December 2019 until September 2021, according to ESPN.
