What’s left to watch for in the final week of a dreadful Mets season

Mets season has been unofficially over for months. Their home schedule is officially over. The final six games, in Texas and Washington, are for the diehards — particularly because those diehards have no idea when they will be able to see the club play again after this year.

In that spirit, here are five things to watch for from the Mets over the final week of the campaign, which does not matter and yet is far from meaningless:

Carson Benge and Nolan McLean entered this month as likely also-rans in the NL Rookie of the Year battle. With one week to play, they still are underdogs but in a race that has tightened largely because of the way their competition has played and not played.

Cincinnati’s Sal Stewart is having his worst month of the season (with a .634 OPS) and St. Louis’ JJ Wetherholt has played only four September games, returning last week from a wrist injury.
