Fantasy football Week 2 waiver wire targets: 49ers rookie RB headlines must-add players

It’s time for that one friend in your league to splurge 50 percent of their Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB) on the no-name player who scored a touchdown in Week 1. 

The waiver wire market is always dictated by the collective value perception of the league, and with a sample of one week to evaluate, prices are volatile. 

One of these players could prove to be league winners, or at least effective additions in the short term. 

Others become dust in the wind. 

But that’s why the Week 2 waiver wire is the most essential opportunity to scoop someone that your draft overlooked, and potentially change your season’s course.

Top waiver wire targets for Week 2

Kaelon Black, SF, RB (27 percent rostered)

Christian McCaffrey is 30 and while he’s still the sensational lead back he’s always been, a dynamic partner is necessary for his own sake. Black proved just that as the two split the workload in Thursday’s triumph over the Rams with 15 carries apiece. The Indiana product amassed 70 yards in 43 percent of San Francisco’s snaps. With the deplorable Dolphins on deck, he’s the highest upside running back up for grabs. 

Bryce Young, CAR, QB (14 percent rostered)

The Panthers’ 39 points in their scoragami loss to the Bears was fueled by Young’s 361 passing yards and four total touchdowns. It was the fourth time he’s hit 300 yards in his career and while the Bears’ horrendous defense could have played a part, the Falcons won’t pose a sharper challenge. The Panthers’ patience with Young could be paying off. 

Jalen Coker, CAR, WR (61 percent rostered)

A young receiver who caught eight of nine targets for 138 yards and two touchdowns is just the recipe for the white whale of the Week 2 waiver wire auction. He may have already been drafted in your league, but Coker’s unheralded status after outshining Tetairoa McMillan deserves mention. 

Tyler Shough, NO, QB (41 percent rostered)

Who thought the Saints could take the Lions to overtime? Shough’s 410 passing yards and three touchdowns rewarded him a top-10 fantasy week at his position. He finished 2025 strong against weaker opponents, and now it could be time to tab him a legitimate breakout quarterback. 

Denzel Boston, CLE, WR (28 percent rostered)

As desolate as the Browns are from a fantasy perspective, the rookie showed a spark by leading their receiving corps in snaps in their decimation to Jacksonville. He caught 59 yards and the team’s only score in garbage time.

Mike Gesicki, CIN, TE (2 percent rostered)

For as loaded as Joe Burrow’s cast of weapons are, the veteran tight end led the Bengals in catches, yards and targets. Even if that won’t continue, Gesicki is a reliable member of the high-octane passing offense Burrow is about to unleash. He’s worth a roster spot or at least a stream.

Devin Singletary, NYG, RB (1 percent rostered)

Cam Skattebo made his noise as the lead rusher, but Singletary’s four catches and a touchdown allowed him to coexist. Besides, it’s worth stashing the Giants beneficiary for if Skattebo’s reckless play style lands him on injured reserve again.
