Mets claim Austin Warren to add another bullpen option

The Mets announced Wednesday they claimed right-handed reliever Austin Warren off waivers from the Giants.

The 28-year-old Warren missed most of last season with San Francisco while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.

He made his season debut in the majors on Aug. 28 and appeared in six games, tossing 10 ⅔ innings and allowing two runs.

He was designated for assignment by the Giants on Jan. 8 to open up a spot for backup catcher Sam Huff.

Warren has spent parts of four seasons in the majors, having also pitched in 32 games for the Angels from 2021-23.

He could compete for a spot out of the bullpen in Queens.
