BBC Morning Live's Gethin Jones announces last day as he confirms break from show
by Abbie Bray · Wales OnlineGethin Jones announced that it was his last day on BBC's Morning Live on Friday as he and Helen Skelton take a break for Christmas.
The Welsh presenter is currently performing in Sleeping Beauty at Cardiff's New Theatre, playing Prince Gethin of Gabalfa, which has required him to step away from his usual morning television commitments.
Typically, he appears alongside co-host Helen Skelton on Morning Live, but has taken time off for pantomime season.
However, Gethin returned to screens on Friday to host the final Morning Live show of the year with Helen.
After Alfie Boe's Christmas performance at the end of the show, Gethin announced, "We are taking a break, and we will be back on Monday, January 5, at 9.30am as usual."
Helen continued, "We have got one last Christmas gift for you now from the Bantam of the Opera choir."
Gethin added, "Don't forget the documentary charting their emotional backstories on BBC One and iPlayer tomorrow at 4pm."
Helen concluded, "From all of us, wherever you are, whoever you're with this Christmas, we hope you have reasons to look forward and be thankful. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year."
On Thursday, Gethin shared a video update with his Instagram followers. When speaking about his pantomime experience, he said: "Good morning, just on my way to the theatre for a two-show day. All going well, I haven't been booed off yet, I see that as a positive.
"Back is holding up. Very boring rehab, but it needs to be done. Amazing crew, cast, the whole team which makes a big difference."
He then addressed Morning Live viewers regarding his plans for the show. Gethin commented: "A Couple of messages on here from people asking about Morning Live, which is very sweet.
"I'm very happy to say that I'll be back with the team on Friday. I'll be hosting on Friday with Hel. It's the last Morning Live of the year. Then it's a two-week break, and then we're back on January the fifth.
"So, we do two shows in Cardiff on the Sunday in the panto, and then I go straight back up for the new series or the new year."
He continued: "Excited to see the team on Friday, excited... to see you on Friday on screen, and by then we'll be halfway through the panto run. Mad. Then it will be Christmas.
"So, yeah, that's me, just getting to the theatre, having a ginger tea. Warm up and vocal warm-ups, show time."
BBC Morning Live is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
