Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson press conference descends into chaos as Tony Bellew kicked out
by John Jones, Martin Domin · Wales OnlineA press conference for the hotly-anticipated boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul descended into chaos as former world champion Tony Bellew was kicked out after berating Paul.
The Liverpudlian is in Texas for Friday's heavyweight clash and interrupted the press conference to launch a tirade against the YouTuber-turned-boxer. However, the stunt backfired as Bellew's microphone malfunctioned, with nobody able to hear what the former cruiserweight champion was saying.
He was then escorted out of the venue while a bemused Paul - who has been heavily criticised by Bellew and other pros after turning professional in 2020 - watched on.
Bellew has been a vocal critic of 27-year-old Paul and has slammed him for taking on "granddad" Tyson in the highly anticipated bout, for which the former Disney Channel star is set to earn around $40 million.
"He's 58 years old. He's closing in on 60 and he's fighting a man who isn't even half his age," Bellew told Best Offshore Sports Books. "The Disney Boy is just attacking granddads now. It's truly frightening. I mean, we might as well go to the retirement home and start getting out a few of them."
"If Mike turns up and lands a right hand on him, he's going to sleep," he added. "So who should he come back against? A 70-year-old? If he wins, is he going to keep going like that with the age? Is he going to come down? Is he going to face a real boxer?"
Paul's clash with Tyson will be his 12th professional fight, having suffered his only defeat to former Love Island star Tommy Fury last year. Heavyweight legend Tyson meanwhile, last fought in 2020, when he drew with Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition match.
After Bellew was removed, the former YouTuber told Tyson he wanted him to be at his best for the fight, saying: "He's says he's going to kill me, is that right? I want that killer, I want there to be no excuses when I knock him out."
"Someone's getting put to sleep, it's going to be a war," Paul added. "We're both heavy hitters and it's not going the distance."
