Kings vs. Warriors gameday: Fox, Kuminga, Curry injury news, odds and 3 things to watch
by Jason Anderson · The Fresno BeeThe Kings and Warriors could be missing key players when they face off for the first time this season Sunday at Chase Center in San Francisco.
Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox is doubtful due to a right glute contusion after taking a hard fall in Friday’s 138-133 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Kings forward Keegan Murray is questionable after missing the past two games with left ankle inflammation.
The Warriors have already ruled Jonathan Kuminga out after he went down with an ankle injury in their 121-113 win over the Grizzlies on Saturday.
The Kings (16-19) have won three in a row under interim coach Doug Christie. They have moved up to 11th in the Western Conference, 1 ½ games behind the Minnesota Timberwolves for the final play-in spot.
The Warriors (18-16) have won three of their last four games. They are eighth in the West, 1 ½ games behind the Dallas Mavericks for the No. 6 seed. Stephen Curry was held out of Saturday’s game due to knee injury management, but he is expected to play against Sacramento.
Here are three things to watch in Sunday’s game.
Guarding Curry
Curry’s scoring average has dipped to 22.3 points per game this season, down from 29.4 in 2022-23 and 26.4 in 2023-24, but he is still shooting 41.8% from 3-point range.
Curry had 30 points, six rebounds and 10 assists in Thursday’s 139-105 win over the Philadelphia 76ers, going 11 of 15 from the field and a perfect 8 of 8 from 3-point range.
The Kings have been starting Keon Ellis with Murray out of the lineup over the past two games. Ellis will probably get another start if Fox or Murray are out of the lineup Sunday.
Either way, Ellis will be asked to guard Curry at times. The Kings could also turn to rookie guard Devin Carter, who made his NBA debut Friday after recovering from shoulder surgery.
Fox’s injury
Fox was injured after being undercut by Jaren Jackson Jr. on a dunk attempt with 43.8 seconds remaining in Friday’s win over the Grizzlies. Jackson was assessed a flagrant 1 foul on the play.
Fox has yet to miss a game this season. He is averaging 26.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.6 steals
Kuminga’s injury
Kuminga suffered a right ankle sprain late in the first half of Saturday’s win over Memphis. Warriors coach Steve Kerr described Kuminga’s injury as “significant,” saying he will be out Sunday and likely longer pending MRI results.
Kuminga is Golden State’s second-leading scorer. He is averaging 16.9 points and 5.1 rebounds while shooting 45.6% from the field and 32.7% from 3-point range.
