The Sorceress has been compared in style to the PoE 2 Witch, but instead of summons, she focuses on elemental magic damage. She’s an intelligence-based class that inflicts elemental destruction through the new and improved caster weapons, which instead of PoE’s default melee attack and mods, now have a free-to-cast spell that changes depending on the staff equipped.

Unlike other classes, the Sorceress doesn’t have a signature weapon, but instead uses staves to decrease enemies elemental resistances and buff her own elemental damage. She also has pretty poor defenses and isn’t able to withstand damage like melee style characters such as the Warrior or Druid, but there are some spells that can aid her in combat, such as Arctic Armor.

There are also different ascendancies depending on how you plan to build your class that act like subclasses. For the Sorceress, these are:

• The Stormweaver: Become a master of the elements who can cast faster, hit harder, and chill and shock enemies en masse. The Stormweaver can even conjure devastating Elemental Storms.
• The Chronomancer: Wields powerful temporal magic that can reset cooldowns, slow enemies in her presence, and even freeze time.

The Sorceress has more AoE abilities than most classes, along with a handful of powerful single-target and buff skills that suit her passives.

The best mid-game PoE 2 Sorceress build is:

• Key skills: Flame Wall, Frost Bolt, Cold Snap, Firestorm, Ice Wall, Flameblast
• Key persistent Spirit buffs: Raging Spirits, Blink, Grim Feast (Witch tree)
• Key passives: Path of Flame, Path of Winter, Overexposure, Climate Change, Volcanic Skin, Inescapable Cold
• Ascendancy: Chronomancer

Key skills

This fire and ice build focuses on a mix of damage output and defensive utility. Flame Wall, Frost Bolt, and Cold Snap will see you through to the end of Act 3 before reaching the Cruel difficulty. Flame Wall has the added benefit of adding fire damage to any projectile shot through it, such as Frost Bolt. It’s also great for clearing large mobs. You can then spam Frost Bolts and until you Freeze your foes, detonating them with Cold Snap, or detonate the Frost Bolt orbs outright to deal high damage against bosses that are harder to freeze.

Once entering the Cruel difficulty, shift to using Firestorm to clear mobs of enemies. Ice Wall helps kite enemies and keep them in place, allowing Firestorm to continue building up damage as you spam it. When facing bosses, shift back to using the Frost Bolt and Cold Snap combo if they don’t resist Frost. If they do, channeling Flameblast while using Ice Wall to protect yourself is a good idea.

Key persistent Spirit buffs

Raging Spirits summons little fiery heads that greatly increase the damage of your fire skills, particularly Flame Wall, and is good for the entire run through to the endgame.

Blink ensures you have the mobility required to dodge out of the way from bosses that can easily one-shot you. Next up, the Grim Feast skill from the Witch tree can help you stay alive longer as it refills your Energy Shield quickly; consider going this route if you’re having trouble staying alive.

Key passives

Work your way toward elemental buffs like Path of Flame and Path of Winter in the early game to give your skills some much-needed power buffs and a chance to inflict Ignite and Frozen. Focus on Overexposure and Climate Change in the mid-game before heading all the way up to the top with Volcanic Skin and Inescapable Cold, grabbing any buffs to your Energy Shield you can along the way.

Ascendancy

The Chronomancer Ascendancy wins out over the Stormweaver due to the defensive utility of the Time Freeze ability. This allows you to escape dangerous situations or charge up Flameblast for massive damage. It also grants Temporal Rift, resetting your life and mana to what it was after teleporting to a previous location.
