Manor Lords, Against The Storm, and the greatest RTS games now cheaper than ever
Some of the best RTS, strategy, city building, and colony games are now cheaper than ever via a big sale by Manor Lords label Hooded Horse.
by Ed Smith · PCGamesNIt’s been a good year for Hooded Horse, the publisher behind Against The Storm, Cataclismo, Norland, and dozens of others. The biggest cause for celebration is no doubt Manor Lords – once the most wishlisted game on all of Steam, with each subsequent update, the early-access version attracts more players and plaudits. But there’s also Breachway, the sci-fi strategy game with flashes of FTL, Workers and Resources, which hit 1.0 this year, and the Command and Conquer-inflected (except with ants, rather than people) RTS Empires of the Undergrowth. In commemoration of a bumper 2024, the studio has put all of its biggest and best city builders and strategy sims on sale, knocking some of the genres’ heaviest hitters down to the lowest price ever.
Let’s start with the headliner. Manor Lords, the medieval strategy game by Grzegorz ‘Slavic Magic’ Styczeń, is now the cheapest it’s ever been. Atmospheric, detailed, and due a new update that will overhaul the economy and add new maps, Manor Lords is still in early access, but has already been greatly expanded since its initial release back in April. Right now, it’s down to an all-time low of $27.99 / £24.49. If you haven’t sampled Manor Lords so far, this would be a good time.
12 months since it arrived on Steam, unique roguelike and city-building game hybrid Against The Storm still boasts ‘overwhelmingly positive’ reviews. If you haven’t played it before, imagine the visual style of Warcraft 3 mixed with the strategizing and construction of the superb Civilization Revolutions. The latest update, 1.5, adds new events and resources, and also builds on the Keepers of the Stone DLC. It’s also down to its lowest price ever, and a total steal at $14.99 / £12.49.
Breachway is a stylish spin on beloved space roguelike FTL Faster Than Light, and also cheaper now than it’s ever been. Then there’s Cataclismo, a physics-driven, anarchic RTS game where everything you build can be blown apart piece by piece. We’d also recommend Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic, a more logistics and economy-based take on the SimCity and Cities Skylines formula with a distinctive Eastern European aesthetic.
