Upcoming Amazon co-op dungeon crawler King of Meat is holding an alpha soon, so you can try the Dark Souls and Fall Guys blend early.

King of Meat is easily one of my most anticipated games right now. The co-op dungeon crawler trades raw skills for controlled chaos, and this makes it a total joy to play with absolutely anyone. It’s got Dark Souls-esque combat, Fall Guys antics, and friendly fire shenanigans that’d make even the most seasoned Helldivers 2 players burst out laughing. If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, developer Glowmade is about to do an alpha test, and you can sign up for a chance to play right now.

Earlier this year I came away from my King of Meat preview pleasantly surprised. I had no idea what I was walking into, apart from the fact that it was publisher Amazon’s newest videogame venture, but discovered a co-op game I can’t wait to play more of.

Cast as a group of four in the land of Loregok, you’re a contestant in the world’s biggest game show. That means you need to make your way through rooms filled with enemies, traps, and puzzles while pleasing the crowd to get as high a score as possible. It’s a simple premise that plays like a diet version of Dark Souls, but that’s why I enjoyed my time with King of Meat so much. You don’t need too much skill, you just need to embrace the chaos.

There’s another side to King of Meat beyond the dungeon crawling, too, as the full launch will rely on a lot of user-generated content. You can build and share your own dungeons, with as many headache-inducing rooms as you’d like. If enough players, or even the team at Glowmade, end up loving your creation it can actually wind up in the main game’s rotation – so everyone can experience your unique brand of chaos.

Keep in mind that signing up doesn’t guarantee you access to King of Meat’s upcoming alpha test, and if you do get in your progress won’t carry over from the alpha to the full release. You’ll mostly be helping Glowmade with feedback and bug reports by playing an early build of the game.

Glowmade says the King of Meat alpha test will run from Wednesday December 4 to Saturday December 14. The playtest will be available to Steam and Xbox players in North America and Europe, and you’ll be under a strict NDA if you get access. You can sign up right here.
