Delta Force's second anniversary update brings a 5v5 Detonation mode, with a new map to come

Explosive isn't typically a term you'd want applied to a two year old's birthday party, but free-to-play FPS Delta Force is looking to celebrate its second anniversary in bombastic style courtesy of a new Demolition game mode.

The new 5v5 mode for Delta Force sees two teams vying for control over various sites, with attackers looking to plant and detonate explosives while defenders attempt to hold their ground and defuse any planted devices. A classic vintage of tactical FPS modes, if you will. Detonation has been released in open beta, with adjustments planned to "shape the mode ahead of its full release."

While big booms might make the headlines, they're not the only new addition to Delta Force. Anyone who plays during the anniversary celebrations will have the chance to "earn up to 3,900 limited-time Delta Tickets, alongside the Golden State Legendary AUG appearance and other exclusive anniversary-themed rewards." The first volume of Operator Archives is also fleshing out the background to the game's many gunslingers, with plans for Operators Quarters - social spaces which will offer a chance to relax between all those hectic gunfights - to arrive early next year.

There's plenty more in the military-hardware-clogged pipeline, too. Following the addition of The Mog, another UE5-enhanced Warfare map is on the way in November. The extraction-based Operations mode, meanwhile, is getting a city-based map in early 2027. Called Siege: Valkyrie, it promises to introduce "new gameplay rules" and the ability to bring players from multiple difficulty tiers together into a single game. Like The Mog and other recent maps, Siege: Valkyrie has been built "using Unreal Engine 5 features," so expect fancy lighting and visual destruction as you sweep the streets and skyscrapers. 

"The inner city is opulent but dangerous, while the outer city is shaped by a harsher struggle for survival and resources," reads the map description in the official press release. "Players can choose to extract safely with what they have found, or push deeper into the city in pursuit of a significantly larger payout, risking everything in the process."

The Delta Force anniversary update technically kicked off earlier this month with Season Reorientation, a number of quality-of-life improvements including cross-region matchmaking as well as reworked menus and tutorials. The Layali Grove Operations map has been updated with new "fishing and jet ski-based gameplay." Just watch out for any snipers before casting your line. There's also the grand-scale Warfare map The Mog, which brings a new convoy experience inspired by Black Hawk Down.

Finally, Delta Force's esports RISE series is gearing up for a big showcase at DreamHack Stockholm, which will bring teams from EMEA and the Americas to compete in the first Delta Force Invitational from November 27-29.

The anniversary update and planned additions follows on from the launch of Delta Force's Season Meltdown back in June, which also brought a new map in the form of the Coliseum along with additional weapons and a transport helicopter.
