Bleak Christmas for Upington City players?

by · KickOff

Some of Upington City FC players had nothing to celebrate Christmas this year after the Motsepe Foundation Championship club decided not to pay salaries before Christmas Day.

Although the affected players admit that it is not all players who have not been paid, they say some of them have not received salaries for two months now.

"It is disappointing, last time KickOff was told we get paid on the 20th of every month [in the article published on 17 October, 2025], but from what I know we get paid on the 25th of every month, but now the 25th of December is long gone and we still have not been paid, this is the second month now," one of the Upington City players tells KickOff.

"Now we are told it's not yet the end of December. What makes matters worse is that the club told us to make plans to report back to training today [Saturday], but it's impossible when I have nothing in my pocket. Where will I get the money to travel there when I have not been paid for two months?"

When asked for his side of the story, club chairman David Mogashoa replied to KickOff with a text, explaining why the players have not been paid yet.

"But December is not over, What is a Christmas salary? There is no such thing in their Contracts. Contracts are clear.

"The last day of the month is the salary date. Nawe you like entertaining nonsense." Mogashoa's text said.
