Allende’s name bubbling abroad with Downs contract running down

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Marcelo Allende could be headed to North America for his next move upon the expiry of his contract.

Allende will run down the full length of his five-year contract at Sundowns on June 30, 2027.

He will do so having given Sundowns full value for their investment, moving at an average of 44 games per season since coming in from Uruguayan club Montevideo City Torque.

It has now emerged that there will be an option in Mexico’s top-tier league, while Major League Soccer (MLS) is also being targeted.

Allende’s handlers are keen to pursue new opportunities away from Sundowns once his contract runs up and he can sign a pre-contract in January.

Liga MX: Better money and a shot at La Roja recall

The Liga BBVA MX option will offer Allende improved terms to what he has been on at Sundowns.

It will also put him in front of the eyes of the Chilean national team selectors who have chosen to ignore him since he moved to South Africa.

There is little to no interest in the PSL in South America.

La Roja head coach, Nicolas Cordova, has chosen to keep his selections to players based at home, plus those in Argentina, England, USA, Spain, Mexico, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, and Russia in his latest selection for games against Canada, USA, and Mexico.

Some of the players are with lower division clubs in those countries.

Yet for Allende, despite playing at the FIFA Club World Cup, winning the CAF Champions League, and the African-Asian-Pacific Cup, he has not been considered.

Professional to the end...

The 27-year-old has maintained that he will continue giving Sundowns his best.

"I think I’m very professional … I have my last year here for now, and I always try to do my best until the final, and I will always do so in the future, now in the present.

"My family gave me this idea, and I will respect it always, everywhere.

"I always try to respect the badge, which is important," said Allende recently when questioned about his contract and consistency ahead of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup against Al Ahli Saudi.
