With Relebohile Mofokeng now enjoying a growing presence in the Royale Union Saint-Gilloise starting line-up, his manager, David Hubert, has admitted that he has "more than 11 starters" in his squad.

Mofokeng netted on his UEFA Europa League debut on Thursday night, opening the scoring just 18 minutes into the match as his side claimed a 3-0 victory over Czech outfit Viktoria Plzen.

Rele's place in the team

The Bafana Bafana star has taken up a more prominent role in the team since the start of September, as he has started three of Union SG's four games this month so far.

Impressively, he has scored in each of those three starts, which have come against Sint-Truiden, Lommel and Viktoria Plzen.

Union SG manager Hubert has now suggested that there is a lot of competition for starting places in his squad.

"We started the match with a clear idea. Press high, and try to force errors from them. And try to annoy them by moving a lot in the spaces. That worked well," Hubert told Belgian channel VTM.

"We could have scored even more before half-time."

Competition for places

"I knew what we had in our hands. And what the lads can bring. We have more than 11 starters.

"The squad was thin today, but I knew what we were capable of. Then it remains to be seen if it clicks, with guys who suddenly have to play 90 minutes. But I have always been convinced that we could do this."
