Downs receive welcome boost ahead of MTN8 final
by Chad Nagel · KickOffMamelodi Sundowns have received a timely boost ahead of their MTN8 final showdown with Orlando Pirates, with Teboho Mokoena expected to recover from injury in time for the big clash.
The midfielder missed Bafana Bafana's 5-0 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying win over Eritrea in Cairo after picking up an injury during South Africa's 2-1 victory over Guinea in Soweto.
There had initially been concern over Mokoena's condition but according to reports those fears have eased, with the Sundowns star understood to be on course to return when the Brazilians face Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 10 October.

Mokoena on course for MTN8 Final
Mokoena has become an important player for both Sundowns and Bafana, making his potential return particularly significant for the reigning domestic champions.
His absence was noticeable as South Africa comfortably dispatched Eritrea, although Pitso Mosimane's side still secured maximum points to make it two wins from two in their Group D qualifying campaign.
Sundowns will now hope Mokoena can complete his recovery and be available for what promises to be a major early-season test against Pirates.
Modiba could also return
There could be another boost for Sundowns, with Aubrey Modiba also expected to recover in time for the MTN8 final.
The defender was unavailable for the Eritrea clash after suffering an injury in the win over Guinea but is reportedly on course to return before the domestic season resumes.
Having both Mokena and Modiba back would give Sundowns more options as they prepare for a final against a Pirates side also chasing early silverware.
Aubaas injury causes concern
While the updates on Mokoena and Modiba are encouraging, Sundowns are still waiting for more clarity on Bathusi Aubaas.
Aubaas started against Eritrea after replacing the injured Mokoena, but his night was cut short when he was forced off early in the emphatic victory.
His injury still needs to be assessed, leaving Sundowns waiting for a clearer indication of how long he could be sidelined.
Sundowns eye early silverware
The MTN8 final presents Sundowns with an opportunity to secure their first piece of silverware of the domestic campaign, but Pirates stand in their way.
For now, Mokoena and Modiba will focus on completing their rehabilitation, with Sundowns hoping both can return to full fitness before the showdown in Durban.
The timing also works in their favour on the international front, with Bafana's next AFCON qualifiers only scheduled for November, giving the injured players additional time to recover.
