by · KickOff

Polokwane City’ business acumen has placed them in line to make millions again for their next big exit when the next transfer window opens next month.

The Limpopo outfit earned R12 million for the transfer of Oswin Appollis to Orlando Pirates during last year’s winter break.

This year, they will move Bafana Bafana right-back Thabang Matuludi.

Prior to even concluding Matuludi’s transfer, Polokwane are already guaranteed approximately R6,4 million from his World Cup squad selection.

This is money from the FIFA Club Benefits Programme pegged at USD355 million (approx. R5,8 billion), which will be used as compensation to clubs that release players to represent their national teams.

It is estimated that these payments will be about R200 000 per day this year.

With Bafana at the World Cup until at least June 25 when they play South Korea, there will be compensation for about 32 days with the cover having come into effect from May 25.

If Bafana proceed beyond the group stage, there will be further funds for the clubs with teams in Group A playing their Last 32 games until June 30.

That will come to approximately R1 million extra for Polokwane.

Rise and Shine are believed to be holding out for about R6 million for the 27-year-old, whose deal with the club is still running.

That will then total R12 million of incoming funds for Polokwane from Matuludi before the next transfer window closes.

Potential life at Pirates

Pirates have raised a hand of interest with their intentions on replacing Bandile Shandu and the ageing Thabiso Lebitso in a position that also has Deano van Rooyen yet to stamp his authority.

These issues pushed Kamogelo Sebelebele to play at wingback for most of the second half of the season instead of further up the pitch.

Matuludi has travelled to the World Cup as cover for Khuliso Mudau, and so his game-time will be dependent on the Mamelodi Sundowns star.
