Coach salutes Griquas players after Currie Cup glory
by KickOff Rugby · KickOffGriquas coach Pieter Bergh was a happy man as his side secured back-to-back Currie Cup titles in Kimberley on Saturday.
It was a hard-fought final against the Pumas, with Griquas winning 23-16 and landing the killer blow five minutes from time through a maul try, with replacement hooker Janco Uys crashing over after the teams were locked at 16-16.
After the disappointment of 2022, when the Pumas came to the Diamond City to secure the title, Bergh said that winning in front of their home fans was all he wanted for his side.

“This is what I wanted for Kimberley, a home final. I get emotional,” Bergh said after the match.
“To see the stadium like this, and the people come to support us… this is all I dreamed of. This is amazing.”
Bergh paid tribute to his players, saying that they had put in the hard work throughout the season after starting off with a loss to the Stormers XXIII in round one.
“People don’t see what the players do off the field, how hard they work, the sacrifices they make. They absolutely deserve it,” Bergh said.
“We lost our first game of the Currie Cup against the Stormers. We came back, and we regrouped, and the guys didn’t lose a game from there. All credit to the players,” Bergh said.
