NIAA moves football state title games at Allegiant Stadium to F1 weekend

Four of the Nevada high school football state championship games will occur during Formula 1 weekend in Las Vegas this year.

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association unanimously approved a date change for the state championship games from Tuesday, Nov. 24, to Friday, Nov. 20 at its fall Board of Control meeting Tuesday at Bishop Gorman.

Allegiant Stadium will host the Open Division, Class 5A, 3A and 1A state championship games on Nov. 20.

NIAA staff told the Board of Control that they were informed by the Las Vegas Raiders that Allegiant Stadium was unavailable for Nov. 24, causing the date change.

The NIAA has hosted its state championship games at Allegiant Stadium the last three years on the Tuesday following Formula 1 weekend because of high hotel rates for traveling schools.
