UNLV linebacker earns honor for play in blowout of Akron

UNLV senior linebacker Cam Santee was named the Mountain West’s Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in a 38-10 win at Akron.

Santee, a transfer from Holy Cross, led all players with 10 tackles, including eight solo. He also grabbed one of UNLV’s three interceptions as the Rebels pitched a second-half shutout in their largest non-league road win since UNLV first joined a conference in 1982.

Santee graduated from Avon High, about an hour’s drive from Akron.

UNLV (2-2) next hosts Cal at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Allegiant Stadium.
