Klint Kubiak completes 1st coaching staff with Raiders

New Las Vegas Raiders coach Klint Kubiak has completed his first coaching staff despite getting a late start because of his Super Bowl run with the Seattle Seahawks.

Most of the names and roles formally announced Sunday had been reported.

Longtime Kubiak lieutenant Andrew Janocko is the offensive coordinator, staff holdover Rob Leonard is the defensive coordinator and veteran Joe DeCamillis is the special teams coordinator.

The staff will not have a formal quarterbacks coach. Kubiak, Janocko and assistant head coach Mike McCoy all will have a role in mentoring likely No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza.

Seattle is the only other team without a designated quarterbacks coach. Janocko held the job with the Seahawks last season.

Luke Steckel remains the tight ends coach after leading one of the best groups in the NFL last season.

Kubiak hired the son of a longtime college coach as a defensive assistant. Steve Ferentz, whose father, Kirk, has been at Iowa since 1999, comes over from the University of South Dakota.

Drew Gaither and Cody Grimm will serve as defensive quality control coaches.

Joe Woods will remain in his role as defensive pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach.

Matt Capurro, the Raiders’ assistant to the head coach from 2003 to 2008, will be the team’s senior vice president of coaching operations after spending the past 15 years in Seattle.

Kubiak also hired Rohit Mogalayapalli in a key analytics role as director of special projects and game management.
