NHL trade deadline updates, rumors: Golden Knights appear to stand pat — LIVE BLOG

by · Las Vegas Review-Journal

The NHL trade deadline is Friday at noon, and there is expected to be plenty of activity.

The Golden Knights have already made two deals this week and could be involved in more as the morning goes along.

Follow all the trade rumors and movement as it happens live:

Golden Knights remain quiet

It appears the Knights did their business before trade deadline day and didn’t make a deal Friday, according to the Review-Journal’s Danny Webster.

Habs busy?; Trocheck stays put

Keep an eye on the Montreal Canadiens, who reportedly have at least one deal in the pipeline that got done before the deadline.

Also, Rangers center Vincent Trocheck reportedly was not traded and will stay in New York.

Trades trickling in

The Maple Leafs reportedly cashed in on Bobby McMann’s hot stick and traded the 19-goal scorer to Seattle. Toronto received a fourth-round pick in 2026 and a 2027 second rounder.

St. Louis defenseman Justin Faulk is headed to Detroit.

Also, Ducks center Ryan Strome is off to Calgary in a surprising move. Strome has nine points in 33 games.

Trade deadline passes

It’s noon Pacific time, and the trade deadline has passed without any fireworks or big names on the move.

Now we wait to see what trades were completed at the wire and are announced later this afternoon.

All that said, the Golden Knights were in the background all morning and weren’t linked with any significant moves.

Sharks keeping Klingberg?

San Jose defenseman John Klingberg appears to be staying put with the Sharks.

Golden Knights running out of time

Trades are processed and announced well after the noon deadline, but the clock is ticking for the Golden Knights and general manager Kelly McCrimmon to get something done.

Other than losing forward Cole Reinhardt on waivers to Florida, it continues to be quiet around City National Arena. The Knights have not been linked to any major deals yet.

Blues open for business?

St. Louis traded its captain and it appears the Blues could move a number of players in the final hour.

Defensemen Colton Parayko and Justin Faulk, forward Robert Thomas and even goaltender Jordan Binnington are being mentioned a possible trade chips for a team that is last in the Central Division and out of the playoff race.

Trades start to get finalized

St. Louis Blues captain Brayden Schenn appears to be headed to the New York Islanders, who are tied for second on points in the Metropolitan Division.

The San Jose Sharks are sending defenseman Timothy Liljegren to the Washington Capitals.

Quiet entering final hour

It’s slow going so far. Will there be a final flurry before the noon trade deadline?

We’re still waiting for a big splash as opposed to this deal for physical fourth-liner Nicolas Deslauriers.

Knights GM to address media before Wild game

Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon will be available to the media at approximately 5:30 p.m. PT at T-Mobile Arena prior to Friday’s game against the Minnesota Wild to discuss trade deadline day.

So far, there’s not much for McCrimmon to talk about.

Kadri in play for Habs?

Kings send veteran to Tampa Bay

Los Angeles is slipping from playoff contention and already fired its coach. Now forward Corey Perry appears to be headed to Tampa Bay, according to several reports.

The Lightning are first in the Atlantic Division, and Perry gives them some added grit around the net and a veteran with Stanley Cup experience.

Golden Knights quiet for now; Wild make another trade

It remains quiet for now around the Golden Knights with three hours remaining until the trade deadline.

Elsewhere, the Wild are trading for Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno, who will join his brother Marcus in Minnesota.

Adding a character player like Nick Foligno shows the Wild feel like their Stanley Cup window is open now.

Done deal?

It looks like things are heating up with less than four hours until the trade deadline.

There are multiple reports that the Minnesota Wild, who play the Golden Knights on Friday, have traded defenseman David Jiricek to the Philadelphia Flyers for foward Bobby Brink.

Jiricek was taken by the Blue Jackets with the No. 6 pick in the 2022 NHL draft and was traded to Minnesota in 2024 but hasn’t lived up to his potential.

Goaltenders who might interest Golden Knights

One position the Knights could look to upgrade is goaltender. Should the Knights look that direction, here are a few possibilities who might be available, according to ESPN’s Kevin Weekes.

Who are the best players that might be traded?

Here are some of the top players reportedly available before the deadline, according to TSN:

Nazem Kadri, Cgy C

Robert Thomas, StL C

Blake Coleman, Cgy LW

Colton Parayko, StL RD

Rasmus Ristolainen, Phi RD

Justin Faulk, StL RD

Bobby McMann, Tor LW

Predators getting calls on Ryan O’Reilly

The Predators are in a difficult spot, three points out of the final wild card in the Western Conference and trying to decide whether to cut bait on some of its high-priced players.

Here’s the latest from NHL insider Pierre LeBrun on veteran center Ryan O’Reilly: “…there hasn’t been a trade offer yet on the table for Nashville to consider seriously. Given the price paid for Nic Roy yesterday, it’s at least a 1st and a top prospect if not more for a team to get ROR. ROR could very well stay put (which I think he would prefer), but teams are calling.”

Big name off the board?

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman provided an early nugget that the New York Rangers “have indicated they are prepared to keep Vincent Trocheck if they don’t get what they feel they need. Told teams, they are not trading him just for the sake of making a trade.”

Trocheck, a gold medalist with the U.S. Olympic team in February, was one of the bigger names rumored to be available. He has 12 goals and 39 points in 46 games for the Rangers and is one of the best in the league at faceoffs.

Ducks make move on blue line

While many fans on the East Coast were sleeping, Capitals defenseman John Carlson was traded to the Anaheim Ducks late Thursday in what might be the most surprising move so far of deadline week.

Washington received a conditional first-round pick in 2026 or 2027 along with a 2027 third-round pick for the 36-year-old, whose entire career was spent with the Capitals.

Washington (31-25-7) is four points behind Boston for the final Eastern Conference wild-card spot.

Knights add center depth with Dowd

The Knights acquired 35-year-old center Nic Dowd from the Washington Capitals on Thursday in exchange for goaltending prospect Jesper Vikman, a 2027 third-round pick and a 2029 second-round pick.

Dowd has 16 points in 55 games this season averaging 15:33 in ice time. He was one of the Capitals’ most extensive penalty killers, leading all forwards in short-handed ice time (2:40) and 10th in the league.

A former seventh-round pick from the Los Angeles Kings in 2009, Dowd has 192 points in 637 career games. He was with the Capitals since the 2018-19 season.

Knights get busy, land forward from Nashville

The Knights made their first trade of deadline week Tuesday, deadling for Nashville Predators winger Cole Smith.

The Knights sent their third-round pick in 2028 and defenseman prospect Christoffer Sedoff to Nashville.

Smith played in Wednesday’s game at Detroit and has 10 points in 43 games this season.
