On Saturday night, Ariana Grande hosted Bowen Yang’s final show, with help from a performance by Cher.

News of Bowen’s exit was reported earlier this week and confirmed by him on Instagram ahead of the final show.

Ariana began her monologue by explaining she would not be bringing back past characters she played on the show, adding: “When something is perfect, it doesn’t need a sequel,” as she joked: “That’s why I just finished filming Meet the Parents 4.”

Ariana, who has performed as a musical guest twice (once as part of her double-duty in 2016), showcased her talents as a host who is willing to try on costumes no matter how absurd and impressions no matter how improbable.

She sang, parodied, and changed into characters throughout the evening.

The holiday-themed episode included hilarious skits, including an Elf on the Shelf Support Group, a Home Alone parody, and a Love Is Blind reunion, featuring The Grinch.

In his final appearance on the show, Bowen thanked Ariana for sending him off in a memorable way.

The pair had worked together recently on Wicked, adding context to their shared appearance during the show’s monologue.

Fans were delighted to see Ariana return to the show, with one saying she was “one of the greatest hosts of all time,” and many complimenting her for a hilarious show.
