The first European NFL game of the season is in the books.

The Indianapolis Colts defeated the Washington Commanders 30-13 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London after pulling away in the second half.

It was far from a normal game, with three total turnovers and four total touchdowns, plus another troubling quarterback injury for Washington.

Here are three takeaways from the Week 4 game:

1. Colts' rushing attack and defense take over

Indianapolis has overcome an 0-2 start to get back to .500 thanks to its impressive ground game and a defensive turnaround.

On offense, the Colts had 128 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Star running back Jonathan Taylor led the way with 95 yards and two scores. Backup Seth McGowan added 31 yards, and quarterback Daniel Jones rushed in a touchdown. Jones had two first-half turnovers before settling down after the break.

Facing a third-string quarterback for most of the game, the Colts' defense handled their business. They allowed 317 yards in the game, but timely plays were the difference-maker. Washington was just 2 for 15 on third-down and 1 for 4 on fourth-down. For a team that was dead last in total team defense entering Week 4, Indianapolis has steadied the ship to keep its season on track.

2. Commanders' quarterbacks can't stay healthy

With Jayden Daniels still recovering from a shoulder injury, Marcus Mariota got his second straight start on Sunday. His experience was short-lived, though, as a knee injury in the first quarter sent him to the locker room.

The Commanders' third-string quarterback, seventh-round rookie Athan Kaliakmanis, took over for the rest of the game in his NFL debut. The Rutgers alum went 15 of 33 for 186 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Kaliakmanis ultimately did his job by keeping the game close for a while. He took some big hits by holding on to the ball for too long, but he also had a pair of impressive deep completions. The health status of Daniels and Mariota will be the main focus ahead of the Commanders' game next Sunday against the New York Giants.

3. Returning home without a bye

NFL teams typically have a bye week following their games in Europe, but that's not the case for the Colts or Commanders. With it being so early in the season, both teams will have to wait for their week off.

The Colts, now 2-2, will head to Pittsburgh to face the 2-2 Steelers. Aaron Rodgers and Co. are undefeated at home, but they're coming off a loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday Night Football. That extended break, combined with the Colts returning from London, gives the Steelers a rest advantage in Week 5.

Washington, meanwhile, has a home game against the aforementioned Giants in Week 5. John Harbaugh's team, at 2-1, is facing the Arizona Cardinals in New Jersey on Sunday.
