Recap: Belgium knocks out USA 4-1 in World Cup Round of 16 game

The U.S. is now out of the tournament as Belgium meets Spain in the quarterfinals next.

Charles De Ketelaere scored first inside 10 minutes, as he got on the end of a ball that the U.S. should've cleared in time. Malik Tillman responded with another free kick before De Ketelaere made it a brace.
U.S. goalie Matt Freese made a major error in the 57th minute, leading to an easy Belgium goal to make it 3-1. Christian Pulisic withdrew with a knock right after, marking a poor overall showing.
Veteran striker Romelu Lukaku came off the bench and added the fourth in second-half stoppage time off another U.S. defensive error to seal the deal.
Folarin Balogun's availability was the main talking point of the game, as his one-game red-card ban was suspended for the clash. He did not have a major impact on the game.
Belgium came into the game ranked No. 9 by FIFA, while the U.S. trailed at No. 16.
The U.S. topped Group D and eliminated Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in the Round of 32 despite being down a man for most of the second half.
Belgium topped Group G thanks to a 5-1 rout of New Zealand in the finale before knocking out Senegal 3-2 in the Round of 32. Romelu Lukaku, Youri Tielemans and Leandro Trossard were key.
