Wizards’ Vukcevic out at least four weeks with hip injury

by · The Washington Times

The new-look Wizards have suffered their first injury less than a week into training camp. Center Tristan Vukcevic will spend the next four weeks recovering from a left hip impingement, the team announced Thursday.

The 23-year-old Serbian will be reevaluated in four weeks.

Washington signed the seven-footer to a three-year, $9 million contract in February after drafting him in the second round of the 2023 draft. Vukcevic spent the first two and a half seasons of his NBA career bouncing between the Wizards roster and the Capital City Go-Go, Washington’s G League affiliate, on two-way contracts.

Vukcevic made 49 appearances for the Wizards last season, including a career-high 12 starts. He averaged 9 points and 3 rebounds per game, converting 48% of his shots from the field and 35% of his three-point attempts.

The former Real Madrid player is expected to share frontcourt duties with Alex Sarr, Anthony Davis, Khris Middleton and DeAndre Ayton. The Wizards open the season against the Milwaukee Bucks on Oct. 21.
